As evidenced by the large group of people lining up outside the door Thursday prior to Nuts & Bolts True Value Hardware’s official opening, the newest Shawnee Parkway Plaza tenant is clearly creating quite a buzz.
“We are pleased to welcome Nuts and Bolts to the community,” Shawnee Mayor Michelle Distler said during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new store. “It’s an exciting time in Shawnee with all the new business growth taking place.”
Within minutes of opening, customers were exploring the expansive aisles of the store.
“We are more than nuts and bolts,” explained store manager and Shawnee resident Mike Garver. “You will find everything here from home repair needs, lawn and garden supplies, small appliances, housewares, cleaning products, a paint center and much more.”
As the anchor store in Shawnee Parkway Plaza at Pflumm and Shawnee Mission Parkway, the Nuts & Bolts building encompasses 18,000 square feet, with 16,500 of that devoted to sales space. The store will employ 15 to 17 full- and part-time employees.
Officials say it’s more than just the inventory that will keep customers returning, but also the company’s strong focus on putting the needs of customers first. Nuts & Bolts Hardware is locally owned, bringing to the table a top management team having more than 100 years of hardware knowledge and expertise.
“It’s your neighborhood store for advice, service and selection,” said A.R. Wells, the company’s chief operating officer.
“This is our eleventh store in the Kansas City metro, and the Shawnee location is a model for future stores,” said Wells. “The store’s size and inventory mix is as good as it gets for a neighborhood hardware store.”
Certified technicians will service lawn mowers, snow blowers, power equipment, and help with screen repair, glass cutting, key making and more. “We want customers to feel like there isn’t anything they can’t get fixed at this store,” Garver said.
He emphasized that Nuts & Bolts is a family-friendly store, and will host special events during the year for youths.
“As a community-minded business, you will probably see local Boy Scout troops and Girl Scouts at featured events,” Garver said.
Matt Pennington, director of development at Christie Development, has been involved in the Shawnee Plaza redevelopment over the past few years. “Nuts & Bolts adds to the neighborhood shopping center feel. It is a good tenant mix and another reason for patrons to visit this area daily,” Pennington said. “As a high profile area, it will probably create twice as much attention as a normal neighborhood shopping center.”
There are just two spaces left in the development, and Pennington said he is currently working with a client as a tenant for one of them.
“This addition will complement the current mix of businesses,” he noted.
